Injury

Being a TKD coach, it is my duty to train my students to be tough; especially when their national competition draws near. However, it was never my intention to get myself or anyone else injured. Injury equals pain; physical, mental and pocket pain (medical bills).

Many asked me why i was limping since tuesday; I injured my right foot while sparring with one of my favorite students while preparing him for the national competition. My tibialis anterior tendon was swollen accompanied with a cut of 13mm x 8mm x 2mm.

Anyway, this was nothing compared to the injury inflicted on the child (he is 17 this year). His lower lip was split open in a "star-shape". I immediately sent him to the nearest hospital to be stitched up. He was later transferred to a private hospital for further treatment (total cost > S$5K). Though he should recover quite quickly, i still felt bad having to deal with such a freak accident.

The message i am trying to drive at would be this: DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF TAEKWONDO, ONCE EXECUTED CORRECTLY, THE ART CAN BE DEADLY. HENCE, PLEASE BE PROPERLY INSURED.
